The British Embassy announced that Sara Munsterhjelm has been appointed as Vice Consul for the British Consulate
in Alicante.

Sara has worked at the Alicante Consulate for more than six years, assisting vulnerable British nationals, and previously worked in the Department of Health team, also based in Alicante. Her roles have given her an insight into many of the challenges and benefits experienced by those visiting or living in Spain.

Sara said: “I am really excited about the opportunity to take a lead in the support we offer British nationals in this area of Spain. My experience means I have a good understanding of the needs of residents and tourists, and I’m looking forward to working with the local Spanish authorities and the voluntary sector to ensure Brits can access the support and information they need.”

Sara has lived in Alicante for nine years with her family, having moved to Spain shortly after completing a degree in Spanish and German at the University of Manchester.

Sarah-Jane, Consul for Alicante and Madrid said: “I’m very pleased that Sara is taking over as Vice Consul in Alicante.
Her experience puts her in a great position to make sure we continue to offer a high quality service to all our customers.”

Alicante is one of the busiest British Consulates in the world, and handled almost 450 deaths, detentions and hospitalisations in 2014/15. The team also dealt with more than 1200 cases of lost and stolen passports.

The consular region covers Alicante, Valencia, Castellón, Murcia and Albacete. The region has 120,000 Britons registered on the padrón and receives more than two million British tourists each year.

Sara Munsterhjelm replaces Lloyd Milen, who has taken over as Consul-General for north-east Spain and the Balearic Islands, based in Barcelona.
