A 14-month baby was killed this week when the car he was travelling in was hit by another vehicle reportedly travelling in the wrong direction in the Cantoria area of Almería.

The emergency services received an alert of a three-vehicle collision at around 22:05 on Tuesday night on the A-334.

Upon arriving at the scene the emergency services could do nothing to save the lives of the two victims, but attended the baby´s parents and a 5-year old child, transferring them to hospital. The driver of the third vehicle wasn´t physically injured.

According to fire fighters, the collision occurred when the vehicle in which the baby was travelling with his family was carrying out an overtaking manoeuvre and collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction on the wrong side of the road, according to witnesses.

That vehicle was driven by a 27-year old male who was also not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. He was killed in the impact.
