The provincial police of La Rioja arrested a resident of Logroño, after he was clocked travelling at 180 kilometres per hour through Estella.

According to a report from the Policía Foral, the events took place at dawn, when a routine patrol witnessed a passenger car travelling at excessive speed.

The police activated their lights and siren and followed the vehicle, which ignored them for several minutes until finally stopping at the junction with the Navarra highway, in the Merkatondoa area.

The driver, a 35-year-old resident of Logroño, said that he had not stopped earlier because he was scared, as his driving licence had already been withdrawn.

The officers then subjected the driver to a drug test, which confirmed that he had used cannabis, amphetamines and methamphetamines.

The driver was reported for a crime against road safety, and administrative offences.
