The driver of a truck laden with vegetables is no doubt counting his blessings after surviving a major incident involving his vehicle late on Friday night.

The fire service report that they were called to a vehicle blaze off the A-7 motorway, between Alicante and Elche, at around 02:45 in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The truck, carrying vegetables, left the A-7 motorway on a bridge and ended up on the EL-20 road below, after falling several metres, then bursting into flames.

The driver managed to escape the wreck uninjured, despite the severity of the incident.

The road was closed until around 06:30 whilst the wreck was cleared and the road was cleaned.
