All our partners - Working together for safer roads

This week, we recognised the now global event to raise awareness of the dangers of using a mobile phone whilst driving, but still the message isn´t getting through to some people who are risking their own lives, and the lives of others, just to get noticed on social media, and it´s not just the drivers who are creating the risk.

The latest occurrence of social media madness has been recorded on a road in Fuerteventura, where footage shows a young man with his mobile phone in hand, opening the door on the passenger side of a moving vehicle, bringing his body halfway out, and recording the passing landscape as the background for his #selfie.

It was the passenger in a car that was following the vehicle that recorded the footage, as the vehicles travelled at speeds in excess of 70 kilometres per hour.

After recording his ultimate selfie, the man was seen struggling to get back into the vehicle in a situation that could so easily have had a very different outcome.
