Officers from the local police in Villanueva de la Serena, a city in the Province of Badajoz, Extremadura, arrested a 14 year old child on suspicion of reckless driving and driving without a license.

The incident occurred at 04:40 on Monday morning when a patrol involved in surveillance duties observed a vehicle without lights and performing manoeuvres consistent with criminal activities.

The patrol ordered the suspect vehicle to stop, but it attempted to flee at speed. As the officers called for support, a number of patrols joined the chase and successfully stopped the vehicle.

Upon approaching the car, the officers found it was occupied by two children, later to be confirmes as aged 14 and 15. The 14 year old driver was identified as the grandson of the vehicle owner and had taken the vehicle without permission.

The police stressed the importance of parents to “exercise control” over their children, as at the time of day that this incident took place, children should “not be freely in the streets”.
