A drunk driver crashed his car on the N-332 on Sunday night, in the vicinity of the Quiron hospital in Torrevieja.

Realising the liability of the incident, the driver fled on foot, leaving his vehicle upturned by the side of the road.

A vigilant neighbour saw where the driver ran away to and alerted the Guardia Civil traffic police who managed to track him down.

The driver was breathalysed and found to have consumed excessive alcohol, and was promptly arrested on the charge of drunk driving as well as facing a fine for abandoning his vehicle where he left it, in a hazardous location to other road users.
