A total of eight people were injured on Saturday night after a kamikaze driver, travelling in the opposite direction, collided with other vehicles on the M-30 in Madrid.

According to the preliminary investigations, which are ongoing, the driver allegedly travelled on the M-30 from kilometre 2 as far as kilometre 21, where the vehicle collided with four others.

As a result of the impact, the 52-year-old driver was semi-trapped and needed to be extracted by fire fighters, before being taken to the Clinical Hospital of Madrid with a less than serious prognosis.

One of the victims, a 31-year-old male, was totally trapped in his vehicle due to the force of the impact, resulting in fire fighters having to use various techniques in order to extract him. He was taken to the Gregorio Marañón Hospital with various injuries.

Six other people were also injured, four of whom were members of the same family, which included a child around 14 years of age.

The M-30 was closed for a time as a result of the incident, as the vehicles involved were dispersed over several metres.
