Programming Your GPS When Driving

Offence: Programming Your GPS When Driving.

It is perfectly legal to use GPS navigation devices in your vehicle, but you are not allowed to touch them when you are driving. Set your journey before you leave. If you go wrong, most devices will recalculate the route, so leave it alone until you are stopped safely.

Fine: 200 euro plus the loss of 3 points

Reason: Distractions are one of the main contributing factors to road traffic collisions. For a driver to reprogram a GPS, their attention is distracted from the most important function, driving the car. Even the distraction for a second can be deadly, when the vehicle is moving at the same time.
