A total of eight people have lost their lives on the main road network of Spain this weekend, six of whom were motorcyclists and one was riding a scooter, according to the preliminary data released by the DGT.
The weekend coincided with the motorcycle Grand Prix in Cheste, near Valencia, and therefore a special operation monitoring the roads was in place.
Throughout the weekend there were seven fatal incidents with Saturday being the worst day when four bikers were killed in Asturias, Cádiz, Pontevedra and León. However, the most serious crash occurred on Sunday in the Cádiz town of Arcos de Frontera where a mother and her young son were killed and another five injured.
On Sunday, a motorcyclist was killed in Alicante, whereas on Friday a moped rider was killed when in collision with a truck.
