The Spanish road network has returned to a calm normality late on Thursday evening after one of the busiest anticipated days of the Easter holiday period.
One of the areas still registering queues into the evening was around the Torrevieja area, with the usual 8 kilometre stretch of the N-332 still moving slower than normal at the 16:30 time check.
Throughout the day, the DGT recorded 180 kilometres of queuing traffic across 16 provinces.
On Wednesday there was 100 kilometres of slow moving traffic recorded across 10 provinces, increasing to 110 kilometres of delays across 13 provinces by mid afternoon.
Good temperatures and dry roads eased a lot of weather related problems, although 12 people have still lost their lives and another 9 injured in the first part of the Easter operation.
The special operation continues until Monday, with Sunday expected to be particularly busy when those tourists who travelled to coastal and mountainous regions return home. The return operation continues into Monday as a number of places still celebrate that day as a holiday.
As always, the advice is to avoid driving at the busiest times, allow plenty of time for your journey, take plenty of breaks and remember to observe the speed limits whilst maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front at all times.
Locally, it is also worth remembering that there are a lot more drivers on the roads who are not as used to the area as you might be, and so may carry out unusual moves. There will also be more vulnerable road users about; including pedestrians, to a heightened awareness is required whilst staying calm behind the wheel.
