Traffic officers from the Guardia Civil based in Orihuela arrested a man who had robbed a bank at gunpoint, then knocked down two women as he tried to escape.
The man made off with the bank with 12,000 euro in cash after robbing a bank in the Murcia town of Santomera, before returning to the Orihuela area.
The traffic officers noted the vehicle and were suspicious of the driver and subsequently attempted to ask the vehicle driver to stop.
The driver resisted and attempted to escape at speed, knocking down the two women who were on separate streets in the city of Orihuela.
Minutes later, the officers caught up with the vehicle and detained the driver. A subsequent inspection of the vehicle revealed a large amount of cash and a firearm, although this was later discovered to be a fake pistol.
The two women were treated at the scene with one of them being taken to hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the incident.
