Where Can You Park?

Sometimes, finding the correct and legal place to park can be confusing, especially in a town or city we haven’t visited before. However, there are some standards which we can look out for to make things easier and avoid being towed away and fined.

Where can you park your car?

In this picture we can see how the neighbuor (nº 2) has a Vado sign above the garage door, and there is a solid yellow line in front of the garage and another solid yellow line painted over the broken white lines, that means it is forbidden to park in front of the garage.

But in the other 2 cases:

Nº1 (the right of the picture) – Another neighbour decided that it was enough with one Vado and has widened the yellow line to cover the righthand garage door, as you can see, painting the pavement with a solid yellow line too, but just in front of this line there are broken white lines where parking is allowed. If you have any doubt check that there is no Vado in the entrance. Each garage has to have its own Vado.

Nº3 (the left of the picture) – It is the same case than number 1, the owner of the shop has decided to widen the solid yellow line. As you can see there are solid white lines where parking is allowed and there is no Vado visible.

When a solid yellow line is painted in the pavement it means the parking it is not allowed, so any broken white line has to be erased, because if you see a broken white it line means the parking is allowed, so there can not be two different lines painted in the same place which means the opposite.

Vado means you cannot park!

On the photo below we can see that a car is parked in front of a garage displaying a Vado sign. This is not allowed. Many people optain a Vado for their property and then park there themselves. This is not permitted. If you have a Vado, nobody is allowed to park, including the property owner.
