Two young people were hit by a vehicle on the N-332 main road on Saturday morning, one of them being killed at the scene, the other seriously injured.
The incident occurred at around 7:30 on Saturday in the area close to the desalination plant in Torrevieja.
The two victims were on the hard shoulder when they were struck by a vehicle. The impact was so strong that one of the victims was thrown against the crash barrier and suffered a head injury resulting in death. The other suffered serious leg injuries and fractured ribs and was admitted to hospital.
The vehicle involved in the incident failed to stop at the scene and so the Guardia Civil launched an immediate search to try to locate the vehicle and driver, who surrendered himself to the police 3 hours after the incident. He was arrested and detained in connection with what happened.
