One of the most common questions that is asked as the weather warms up is whether drivers are allowed to wear flip flops behind the wheel.
We have answered the question in some detail here, and although our focus is normally on the roads of Spain, we thought it might be appropriate to visit Manchester in the UK for a tragic story.
Greater Manchester Police are investigating how a car smashed into a wall, killing a girl of nine, whilst her father, 45, and sister, aged eleven, remain in a serious condition in hospital as result of the crash on Saturday.
Now, during the course of the investigation, officers have confirmed that a pair of flip-flops or sandals have been found in the driver´s foot well of the Toyota Auris, and are examining whether the shoes may have become wedged in the controls as the vehicle approached a set of traffic lights.
The officers are looking at whether the driver was wearing them, although “It’s one of a range of other possible lines of enquiry,” said the spokesman. GMP said in a statement: “The driver, due to his own serious injuries, has not yet been able to provide a full account of what happened”.
