In 2022, the traffic department launched a new set of road signs to clearly and quickly identify electric charging points in Spain, and although they may not be commonplace yet, they are increasing, and could prove valuable for those driving electric cars to know where they can charge.

Why is this signage important?
Electric charging stations are key for electric vehicles (EVs), which are increasingly common on our roads. With the aim of facilitating their use and promoting more sustainable mobility, the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, in collaboration with other agencies, established clear and understandable signage. This not only helps drivers find charging stations but also integrates them into the Official Catalogue of Traffic Signs, aligning them with the regulations of other European Union countries.
Types of Electric Charging Point Signs
There are three main signs to identify electric charging points:
Electric charging station
Featuring the green pictogram of the electric charging point alone, specifically identifying a station dedicated exclusively to the charging of electric vehicles.

Fuel pump and electric charging station
This sign has pictograms of a traditional fuel pump in black, and an electric charging point in green, and indicates the presence of a fuel service station that also offers electric charging.

Fuel pump, LPG and electric recharging station
Similar to the first, but with the addition of a blue pictogram of a traditional fuel pump, this sign indicates a service station that provides both conventional fuels, GLP (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) and electric recharging.

What about electric vehicles?
In addition to the above signs, a specific pictogram will be used for electric vehicles.
This symbol, an artistic, green-lined outline of a car which becomes a power cable, which indicates that the signage is specifically intended for vehicles of this type, ensuring that EV drivers can always find a suitable charging station.

Where can you see these signs?
These pictograms can be found on service signs both on motorways and in urban areas. They may appear individually or in conjunction with each other, depending on the location and the services available at the charging station.
