A Guardia Civil traffic officer was killed on Friday when the motorcycle he was riding was in a head-on collision with a van.

The incident occurred in the Altiplano area, between Yecla and Jumilla.

The emergency services were notified that the victim was unconscious, lying in the road and had a weak pulse. Medical staff attended but could do nothing to save the life of the officer who died in the line of duty.

José Fernando Almagro was 42 years of age, married and had three children. He was based in the traffic department of the Guardia Civil in Cieza.
