Summer traffic operations continue, due to the increase of vehicles in certain areas, and the movements to and from holiday and leisure destinations, and this week we have one of the most significant of the summer season, second only to the final “operation return”, as we have a national holiday on 15 August, which will be further complicated this year by the threat of adverse weather in places.

Special Operation – August 15
You should avoid travelling during unfavourable and very unfavourable times. The traffic forecasts for the days in which this Special Traffic Operation “August 15 – 2024” will take place will be as follows:
Wednesday, August 14, 2024
In the early afternoon there will be significant long-distance vehicle movements, causing high intensities and traffic problems in the OUTWARD direction of large urban centres and also on the main access routes to coastal tourist and leisure areas, second homes and towns during festivals, with these becoming more pronounced as the afternoon progresses and, in the late afternoon-evening, reaching their destination areas.
These movements in the OUTWARD direction are motivated by the beginning of the second half of the August holiday season, as well as the start of the festive period of rest and leisure on August 15, together with the following weekend, with numerous festivals in towns throughout the country.
For this reason, traffic regulation and management measures will be implemented during the evening to facilitate vehicle circulation in the most problematic areas.
The unfavourable hours for this day will be from 3 p.m. to midnight.
Thursday, August 15, 2024
From early morning, heavy traffic will continue in the direction of OUT of large urban centres and on routes linking coastal towns, access to the coast and second home areas, to reach destination areas by late morning.
These outbound movements will be joined, throughout this morning, by the usual short-distance access to beaches and for the festivities in numerous towns throughout the country.
On this day, traffic regulation and management measures will be implemented to facilitate the exit of vehicles from large urban centres and access to coastal tourist areas.
Late in the evening, there will be movements returning to the large urban centres.
The unfavourable hours for this day will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Friday, August 16, 2024
During the morning there will be the usual movements of entry/exit to large urban centres as it is a working day, which will be smaller than on normal days as this day falls within the festive period of “August 15”.
In the afternoon, there will be movements in the OUTWARD direction with the main destinations being the coastal and littoral tourist areas, rest areas and towns celebrating the start of the weekend.
The unfavourable hours for this day will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Saturday, August 17, 2024
During the morning there will be high traffic movements in the direction OUT of the large urban centres, mainly towards coastal tourist and leisure areas, generated by those who begin their holidays in the second half of this month of August and at the weekend, to be placed in their destination areas by the end of the morning.
In addition to these outbound movements, the usual short-distance access movements to beach and coastal areas will take place throughout the morning.
The unfavourable hours for this day will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Sunday, August 18, 2024
Traffic will be difficult in the morning on short journeys, on roads connecting coastal towns and access to beach areas.
In the afternoon, the RETURN of those who have enjoyed a break during this festive period and those who end their holidays in the first half of August will begin, with high traffic intensities and circulation problems on the main road communication axes that channel all the return movement from the rest areas, coast and second homes, towards the accesses of the large urban centres, and this return may last until late at night.
Traffic regulation and management measures will be implemented during the evening to facilitate the entry of vehicles into large urban areas.
The unfavourable hours for this day will be from 5 p.m. to midnight.

- Stop off the road in extreme situations.
- When, due to significant precipitation (downpour, hail) or extreme weather conditions (snow, ice, wind, fog), traffic becomes difficult and poses a danger to road safety, drivers must stop off the road in an appropriate place until the conditions cease and allow the journey to resume.
- Inform the destination of any possible extension of travel time due to adverse weather conditions.
- Do not leave your vehicle parked off the road unless you are sure you can reach a shelter or house to call for help.
