Volvo Cars has unveiled the EX60, a new five-seat electric SUV designed to enter the largest and most competitive segment of the global electric vehicle market. Positioned between compact and large electric SUVs, the EX60 focuses on range, charging performance, safety, and everyday usability, aiming to remove many of the remaining barriers to electric car adoption.
For Volvo, the EX60 represents its first full entry into the global mid-size electric SUV class, significantly expanding its potential customer base while reinforcing the brand’s long-standing emphasis on safety and responsible design.

Long range and rapid charging
One of the headline figures for the EX60 is its quoted driving range. In all-wheel-drive form, the model is rated for up to 810 kilometres on a single charge under the WLTP test cycle, placing it at the top of its segment. Rear-wheel-drive and alternative all-wheel-drive variants offer ranges of up to 620 and 660 kilometres respectively, giving buyers a choice based on driving needs rather than compromise.
Charging performance has been designed to match long-distance use. When connected to a suitable 400 kW rapid charger, the EX60 can recover up to 340 kilometres of range in around ten minutes. This approach is intended to turn charging stops into brief pauses rather than extended interruptions, supporting regular motorway and interurban travel across Europe.
Built on Volvo’s new electric architecture
The EX60 is the first model based on Volvo’s new SPA3 electric vehicle architecture. This platform integrates batteries into the vehicle structure, uses large-scale casting techniques, and relies on centralised computing to reduce complexity and weight while improving efficiency. According to Volvo, these measures contribute not only to range and performance but also to the lowest carbon footprint of any fully electric Volvo to date, comparable with the smaller EX30.
Powertrain options include three configurations across seven variants, allowing buyers to balance performance, range, and drivetrain layout. Volvo also confirms a ten-year warranty for the battery, underlining its confidence in long-term durability.
Scandinavian design with everyday practicality
In line with Volvo’s design philosophy, the EX60 combines clean exterior lines with a focus on aerodynamic efficiency, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.26. Inside, a flat floor and long wheelbase provide generous rear legroom and a versatile load space, aimed squarely at families and regular long-distance users.
Interior materials emphasise natural finishes and calm, uncluttered design. Practical storage solutions are integrated throughout the cabin, reinforcing the EX60’s positioning as a functional family vehicle rather than a purely lifestyle product.
A digitally focused user experience
The EX60 is described as Volvo’s most digitally advanced vehicle to date. It introduces the latest version of the company’s central computing system, supporting fast screen responses, improved navigation performance, and more intuitive voice interaction. The vehicle is the first Volvo to launch with Google’s Gemini assistant integrated, allowing natural language interaction without the need for fixed command phrases.
Over-the-air software updates are standard, meaning the vehicle’s functionality can improve over time without workshop visits.
Safety remains central
As expected from Volvo, safety is a core element of the EX60’s design. The vehicle uses a reinforced safety cage with boron steel, advanced restraint systems, and a sensor suite that continuously monitors the surrounding environment. A new multi-adaptive seatbelt system adjusts protection in real time based on conditions and occupant characteristics.
The EX60 is designed to exceed current regulatory requirements, reflecting Volvo’s view that safety should advance ahead of legislation rather than simply comply with it.
The EX60 is already available to order in several European markets, with production scheduled to begin in Sweden in the coming months. Deliveries of the first variants are expected to start later this year.
