New driving licence rules in Spain from 19 January 2013.

—————————————————————————
” Community residents with legal residence in Spain acquired on or before the 19th January 2013 holding a community driving permit that is valid for more than 15 years have to renew their driving licence from the 19th January 2015. This affects UK driving licences Group 1 (AM, A1, A2, A, B & BE) or those with more than 5 years in Group 2 (BTP, C1, C1E, C, CE D1, D1E, D, DE).

For new arrivals, this ruling comes into force after 2 years of legal residence in Spain. ”

After one month of the publication of the EU Directive 2006/126/CE, we would like to know if you have had any problems when you have decided to “change” your driving licence into a Spanish Driving Licence.

– Have you done it by yourself or through a “Gestoría”?, How much have you paid?

– What problems have you had in the Traffic Office?, Did you have to go back with any other document?

– How long did it take you to do all the paperwork in Traffic?, in what office did you do it?

We have heard that in some provinces, the Traffic office is not giving the
temporary Spanish paper licence until they do not check with the other country if the driving licence is original and valid. Have you been involved in one of these cases?, what the Traffic Office gave you in return when you gave them your driving licence?
