There has been some speculation through the summer about new speed indication road signs, which differ from the ones we usually see on the roads of Spain, because they have a green circular border.
The stories which have been published in some press and subsequently shared through social media as usual, state that these signs are already in operation in neighbouring France and will be coming to Spain soon.
However, both parts of that statement are false. These road signs are specific to the United Kingdom and the purpose is to inform drivers about the recommended maximum speed.
In Spain, we already have a sign used for that purpose, the blue square, which indicates the same recommended maximum speed.
There is a similar looking sign already used in Spain, but for trains (Pre-announcement of maximum speed).
Moreover, according to the DGT, there is no intention of including them in the Spanish catalogue of road signs, nor has the possibility of implementing them ever been studied in Spain.
