The death of a 92-year-old woman in Barcelona in August has now been attributed as being the first fatality in Spain where an electrically powered scooter had been involved.

The woman had been hit in the Esplugues de Llobregat area of Barcelona, when it was being ridden by two young men.

The incident occurred on la Rambla del Carme de Esplugues, where the vehicle was reported to have been travelling at maximum speed, around 30 kilometres per hour, when the incident happened.

Being the first recorded fatality of this type it is highlighting calls for stricter regulation of these vehicles, plans which are also being accelerated by the DGT, set to be implemented in the early part of 2019.
