The 112 emergency coordination centre received an urgent call at 17:17 from the Guardia Civil saying that one of their officers had been hit by a vehicle and required urgent medical assistance.

The officer, who was 56 years of age and with the initials D.A.N., was riding with his colleague behind a slow moving truck which was having difficulties.

A car driver failed to notice the hazard ahead and crashed into the motorbike, knocking the officer from his vehicle and running over him on the road.
