A cyclist was seriously injured on Sunday morning when a car collided with the bike on the road between Guardamar and Rojales.
The driver of the car failed to stop and fled the scene, leaving the cyclist in a seriously injured state on the road.
Officers from the Guardia Civil launched a search and spent all day on Sunday trying to locate the driver and the vehicle.
On Sunday evening, that search proved successful, when officers located the driver who is currently spending the night in the cells in Torrevieja, whilst the cyclist is seriously ill in hospital.
The driver will be brought before the courts on Monday morning.
