A calm, thoughtful road safety podcast for older teens, young adults, and educators. Voiced by Riley Via-Silva, each episode blends practical guidance with behaviour, psychology, and real-world insight from the N332 Road Safety Project. Clear, steady, and grounded in empathy, Riley’s Road helps listeners understand the choices that keep us safe — on the road and beyond.
What you wear when you ride could make a much bigger difference than you think.
In this episode, I explain why I created my latest road safety video about appropriate clothing for motorbikes, mopeds and electric scooters. It is easy to think that shorts, a vest top and trainers are fine when the weather is hot, especially if you are only travelling a short distance.
But when something goes wrong, your body reacts instinctively. Your hands, feet, knees and elbows can all move towards the road, and suddenly the protection you thought you had is no longer between you and the tarmac.
We talk about appropriate clothing, footwear, gloves and approved helmets, and why protecting yourself is about much more than simply following the rules.
I also explain how the video was filmed under controlled conditions, why it is available in both English and Spanish, and what is coming next in the campaign.
And yes… there is even a little humour at the end.
