Within the quota of Guardia Civil officers, 64 will be for student postings, the largest increase in the last year, the remaining being front-line troops. The police force will be boosted by 1,299 front-line officers and 60 executives, representing an increase of over 300% on that promised.

The last time such an increase was approved was in 2009, during the socialist government´s administrative term, with an increase of 5,000 officers in 2008, although the financial crisis started to take hold in 2010, resulting in a decline in police numbers, before the 2011 elections saw a new government continue to make cuts, until now, the end of this political term.

There will be increases in administrative staffing dealing with such matters as taxation and justice, as well as local government, with the total number of jobs being advertised by the ministry being 11,250, of which 7,416 will be for open recruitment, the remaining 3,834 by internal promotion.
