Nine people lost their lives on the roads of Spain during the course of the weekend, according to the preliminary data provided by the DGT.

Three of those who were killed were motorcyclists.

Sunday was the most fatal day when 5 people were killed and another 3 were injured. The remaining 4 fatalities occurred on Saturday.

Although all involved were lucky to be alive, one of the biggest crashes of the weekend occurred on Sunday in the Valladolid town of Medina.

A total of 15 people were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the A-6 main road when 40 vehicles were involved in the crash, closing the road for around 2 hours.

The initial hypothesis is that reduced visibility caused by a sandstorm was a contributing factor and the drivers failed to respond appropriately to the conditions.
