A Spanish footballer, Antonio Amaya who currently plays for Rayo Vallecano, was arrested by the Guardia Civil last week accused of a crime against road safety.

The player was clocked driving his vehicle at 234 kilometres per hour in a section of the M-303 road near San Martín de la Vega, where the maximum permitted speed limit is 100 kilometres per hour.

As a result, the speeding driver was fined 20,000 euro and a ban of 12 months from driving.

The player has also published a letter in which he apologises to his family, his club and his teammates, as well as the fans of his team.
